Tara has 21 basic forms, each with a different color and spiritual attribute.
Especially popular among Tibetans – Green Tara, mother of enlightenment. Goddess of Protection from Fears and Abundance. Her mantra is: om tare tuttare ture soha. Each mantra is a “sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of “creating transformation. If your inner self is filled with negative thoughts, then chanting the green tara mantra will replace it with calmness, fear is replaced with courage, and self-centeredness develops into a compassionate view of all beings. The vibrations of the mantra connect us to higher states of consciousness, leading us to discover deep truths about ourselves and the universe. In the painting, she is depicted “in a pose of lightness and readiness for action. While her left leg is folded in a contemplative position, her right leg is extended, ready to spring into action. In one hand the Green Tara is in the beneficence position. In the other hand bloom blue lotuses (utpalas), which symbolize purity and strength. Green Tara is usually depicted as a compassionate being, ready to descend from her lotus throne to offer comfort and protection from all the suffering we experience in the world.
